Once there was a string of islands called Oyashima, and there was a military power called "Amamikado" which invaded other countries and expanded its domain. Amamikado invaded and took over all the other countries on Oyashima, except one called Jagara. Jagara was said to be protected by the gods, with the sword of Susanoh sealed somewhere among its area. The country was a forest country, hard to reach unless you knew the way. The warriors of Jagara are all women, and once turning 16 all warriors cut off their right breast and place in the Grave of Breasts, which was used to seal the Sword of Kusanagi (which people thought was Susanoh) with a combination of blood and milk. Jagara has always been ruled by one or more queens.

The current queens are three sisters, the first queen, Miyazu, the second, Azuma, and the third, Yamato. To protect their country and cause a little less bloodshed, Azuma sought an alliance with the first prince of Amamikado, and also ended up falling in love with him, and sharing beds with him.

When a feast was held in Jagara due to three heroes from a prophesy had made the way into Jagara, Azuma instructed the bonfires to be lit high and big, resulting in Amamikado's prince Ohsu and his men to find the way into Jagara. Pretending to take Ohsu hostage, Azuma convinced Miyazu to lift the seal on the sword of Susanoh, only for them to find out that it had been the Sword of Kusanagi sealed away, and that it had been sealed away in Yamato's hand due to a fusion between said hand, and their mother's severed breast, that had occured several years ago, after the death of their mother.

Kusanagi possessed one of the legendary heroes, Kumaso, and killed Yamato. Azuma fled with Ohsu and his general Kawawake. Yamato was revived again with black magic, possessed by Kusanagi, by Jagara's prophet Sagume, who sided with Kusanagi. Miyazu made company with the other two heroes - the thief Izumo, and Ohsu's younger brother Oguna - to look for the real Sword of Susanoh.

Azuma observed the battle between Ohsu's forces and Kusanagi's forces clash, then went to save Ohsu, who was first betrayed by and then saved by his general Kibitsu. Azuma, Ohsu and Kawawake headed for Amamikado's capital, and saw the emperor kill Kawawake's father. After Ohsu saw wht a brutal and cruel ruler his father was, Azuma questioned if he wanted to become a man like that, which he did not. So Ohsu told Oguna how to kill their father, but Oguna was killed at the same time. He was fortunately revived by Miyazu and Kawawake however, while the emperor was revived by one of his generals.

After Oguna managed to kill off the emperor for real and Kusanagi was destroyed, Yamato and Kumaso set out with Susanoh to fix the mess Kusanagi had caused, and Ohsu became the new empereor of Amamikado. Watched over by Azuma and Kawawake, Miyazu and Ohsu signed a peace treaty between Amamikado and Jagara, and Oyashima stepped into a new era.
